YouTube Review #1 – Amateur-style comparisons of D’Addario EJ45TT nylon core and EJ46FF carbon strings on my Cordoba C7 guitar. I also added samples of the 6-week-old strings (EJ45) that were previously on my guitar for reference. Here are some of my observations:
The EJ46FF strings include carbon trebles and Dynacore basses. The EJ45 strings have nylon core basses and nylon trebles.
I tested each set two days after stringing the guitar.
The packaging states that the EJ45’s are “warm, full-bodied tone and consistent intonation.” The packaging of the EJ46FF’s says “vibrant modern tone” with “bold powerful sound, responsive feel, & improved intonation.”
I would agree with both of these assessments! I found the carbon strings to be quite loud and lively with lots of sustain. My first impression was that they almost reminded me of steel strings. They have a higher tension, and the treble strings are thinner than the nylon trebles. When strumming these strings, the fret-buzz sounds more pronounced…almost metallic.
The nylon strings have more of a rounded and warmer tone. They settle in quickly and last a long time. I thought the 6-week old set sounded good when I took them off to do this comparison.
The thinner carbon trebles take a little getting used to, and my first impression is that the high E string feels too thin and high tension. They are fun to play, however, as the sustain gives almost an electric vibe.
I would like to try the Dynacore bass strings with the nylon trebles.
Youtube Review #2 – Speaking in general, different strings work differently on different guitars. One set may sound great on a given guitar, but sound unbalanced or “plasticky” on another. What you play and how you play also matter. For example, flamenco players’ preferences are usually a little different than classical players. The quality of your nails affects the tone, etc. Cost and durability are also considerations. The goal is to find something that works for you, and your instrument and preferences.

Amazon Reviews #1 – “MY FAVORITE STRINGS FOR MY CORDOBA, I have tried every kind of string by Daddario and these have the best sound, feel, they are ready to perform with sooner, don’t stretch for days when you first put them on, now I will say that the regular ej45 EXP strings are a nice second place, the exp does make them last longer in that “prime sounding” period your strings are good for, I use these about 2 weeks 2-3 hours a day before my ear can tell they are not in prime sound period anymore, exp ej45 gave me about 3 weeks but there is something special with these I like them, I have used them all from carbon to exp to non-exp also I have tried Augustine kinds as well, at end of the day from the day after you put these on (play them in an hour or so or just re-tune every few hours for a day) the sound and performance of this D’Addario EJ44TT are my favorites.”

They’re still okay then but not spectacular, and that disappoints me every time I play, casting a bummer over the whole practice, so I have to swap them out.
